On 2nd December 2008, the Peruvian Embassy welcomed a range of business representatives from the UK fashion and apparel industry for a special presentation on Peru's vibrant textiles and apparel sector.
The event, known as 'Peru Textiles', began with a brief welcome by the Peruvian Ambassador, H.E. Ricardo V. Luna, followed by the main presentation and ending with comments by Mr. Hernán Balcázar, CEO of Wall Luxury Essentials, on his experience as a UK importer of Peruvian textile products.
Since the mid 1990s Peru's textile and apparel industry has grown substantially, specializing in full-package services and tailor-made experiences for importers.
The use of Pima and Tanguis long staple and extra-long staple cotton and natural Alpaca and Baby Alpaca fibres, as well as the latest technology processes, has given the industry an edge in providing comfortable high quality finished products.
Major brands the likes of Abercrombie & Fitch, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Georgio Armani, Guess, Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Van Heusen, Tommy Hilfiger, among many others, have found in Peru a reliable a confident source of product for the U.S., European and Latin American markets.
In 2007 Peruvian textile and apparel exports reached US$ 1.7 billion dollars.
